Don't eat these!

Can't say I was actually tempted! These are around 6 inches in diameter and apparently grow much bigger. Their skins are completely smooth. In the past they were used as bowls or containers once they had had the contents removed and been dried. I continue to try to identify them but nobody seems to remember the name.
