Fishing was until recently one of the only sources of income for many who live in the Pantanal. Many fishermen are now finding it more profitable to be boat drivers for tourists who want to see the wildlife of the Pantanal. Laws have been made to prevent commercial fishermen from outside the area from taking large quantities from this river, laws enforced by a team of river police.
