End of an Era (again)

An auspicious occasion - the last ever ever derby game which will be seen sitting in the Old Stand. Designed by the Scots engineer Archibald Leitch and completed just after WW1, it’s due for demolition before the end of the season. Wiki says Leitch's stadiums were ‘initially considered functional rather than aesthetically elegant, and were clearly influenced by his early work on industrial buildings.’ Just one of many main stands that he designed for clubs throughout Britain -  Bramall Lane, Highbury, Stamford Bridge, Celtic Park, Anfield, Craven Cottage, Hampden Park, Roker Park, Old Trafford, Villa Park, Ibrox, Goodison Park, White Hart Lane and Fratton Park…
OK, enough of that. We’d got ourselves fired up with full breakfasts from The Clock, the ground was jumping.. and then the football just didn’t happen. We were rank rotten, in fact. The stats say we had two shots on target? I may have drifted off.
Still, afterwards there was the beer to sup and rugger to watch.. plucky, unlucky, yada yada ...
