ROME BUS TOUR
As we had decided to walk to all but the furthest of sites, we caught a 'hop on hop off' bus, and would recommend the "Green open tour" one. 24 euros for 24 hours. We started by going all the way round, it took one and a half hours. As we wanted to see the sites on the other side of the River Tiber we stayed on and went around again getting off at San Pietro (St Peters) and then walked to Castel Sant' Angelo (The top picture) and the view from the top was fantastico. Then onto the Piazza Navona where all the street artists display their wares.
And finally onto the wonderful building that is the Pantheon, and it's free.
The first Pantheon was built in 27 BC replaced in AD 118-125 by Hadrians rotunda. Hadrian had the inscription "M Agrippa cos tertium fecit" as a modest way of honouring Agrippa.
The second picture is that of the 'Monumento a vittoriano Emmanuel 11'
And the bottom picture St. Peter's on the evening bus ride. We certainly got our monies worth.
We were told that Rome in August because of the intense heat would be very quiet , you must be kidding, it has been buzzing all week, and the queues have been enormous.
As we are travelling back home today I won't get the opportunity to blip so, For those of you who are intending to go to Rome in the near future, I hope this has been of some help.
Finally, if you are like my wife and I, senior citizens, Can I suggest that you carry with you your EHIC because a lot of museums are either free or are reduced on production of an ID.
