Big as two chickens

We went up to the ridge lunchtime to investigate reports that Waverley Lodge was being demolished at last. And indeed it was.

I walked barely ten metres down the track and there was this really loud buzzing noise - it almost drowned out the sound of the demolishing.
And this couple landed on a twig right in front of my nose.  Not one red-legged robber fly, but two red-legged robber flies.  And they are truly huge.

Obviously celebrating Valentine's Day.
