Gone In A Flash

Why is it that the spectacular skies only last for a minute or two?

As I came onto the city bypass at the Gyle there was this fantastic sky (this shot gives it no justice whatsoever).
It looked like somebody had put a huge match to the bottom of the sky.

And I was not ready for it and the camera was on the backseat.

This was grabbed - obviously

By the time I got to Hermiston Gate I was too low - the sun had dropped and the heavy rain clouds had covered the red.

Not fair.
