The long road to Media City
Well to put you all out of your misery, I'll tell you now that we made it, to our destination, without any hitches. What a long way 'up north' is though!
So back to the beginning, for those who like the long version of my day. After a restless night where I dreamt vividly about running out of diesel, I woke at 7. Jobs done, and dogs walked, we left at 9. Stopping at Fakenham to fill up with diesel and sweets for the drive. Then the first 50 miles dragged, with nowhere for 3 hours for a decent services. Mollie was an excellent map reader, and we eventually stopped on the A1 outside Newark at a Subway. They had a special valentines deal, a free sub with any large drink bought, so M & H both had that, and I had a well needed cuppa.
Back on the road, we negotiated Barnsley, then the pennines (Mollie desperately taking photos of the stunning views out of an open window, while I tried to negotiate the hairpin bends, and multiple hill starts) and lastly a giant ring road around Manchester. Arriving, parked and checked in by 3.45.
Pleased that our family room has 3 beds! Henry made a cup of tea and we relaxed for 45 minutes. While it was still light, we decided to venture over to the Quays to see where Mollie has to go for her interview tomorrow. It was a simple 20 minute walk, and what a beautiful place. Expanses of water, surrounded by the media city buildings, bbc and itv logos splashed all over the buildings, an outlet shopping centre and loads of eating places. We took photos, crossed many bridges and marvelled at the skill of the architects and engineers who had created such an effective and positive space. Mollie checked in to the uni reception then we found a pizza express and joined the valentines with our table for 3. A mild panic ensued, when Mollie realised she needs 2 passport photos for tomorrow. We had stopped on the way up at a Tesco, but the machine was out of order. Our luck was in, we found a photo booth within the outlet shopping centre. The very kind receptionist directed up to the booth, and was keen to see the resulting photos. He wished Mollie luck for tomorrow!
Walking back to the Travelodge we felt we now had a good idea of the area & Mollie will have no problem getting there on time tomorrow. Henry and i plan to visit the museum and shops.
Now, its last minute preparation for Moll and tv.
So far, so good. Liking Salford Quays. Let's see what tomorrow brings.
