DAVID AUSTIN ROSES:

Last spring I had a sudden rush of blood to the head & I bought (not at sale price !) 24 DAVID AUSTIN roses, all different. I planted them in a row, like a hedge, in my top space. Since then they have battled drought, constant wind & very little attention but I remain optimistic they will come up trumps.(Whoops, wonder if I should use that word ?) These photos don't do the roses justice, but they're not even a year old, so they'll be better next year. I firmly believe Mr Austin Snr. should have been knighted by the Queen for services to horticulture. Now aged 90, he has been breeding roses for 75 years. Perhaps I'll write her a little note.
Although the day passed me by without a second thought, I have enjoyed immensely all the Blips celebrating Valentine's Day & smiled my way through the clever blippers various interpretations. My two hearts went to 'Cakes' in Scotland & 'Sweet Art' in Hong Kong.
