Sea Mark, Ashey Down
After a dental appointment this afternoon I decided it was time for a leg stretch so with lightened wallet headed up to a breezy Ashey Down.
The Down lies high above the Solent and Spithead with far reaching views to Portsmouth and is great for a mild bit of exercise.
This monolith is Ashey Sea Mark and before the time of electronic aids was used by mariners as a navigation point as it can be seen for many miles in all directions. Sailors still use it to plot their course by dead reckoning. ( think that's the right term)
