Stand-off

A trip to the allotment, taking advantage of a dry (but not very warm) day.

There were a few of these Field Grasshoppers (Chorthippus brunneus) about, not nearly as many as last year... I love their complicated armour, like mediaeval knights (although this one is a bit like the Black Knight in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, lost a limb, but "'Tis only a scratch!")

The wolf spider in the background was seriously wondering about trying to mug the grasshopper, but I think eventually decided that discretion was the better part of valour!
