Round the Block Day

After our working hard day yesterday, we decided to take a drive around the block...Thames, Puketui (near Pauanui), Pauanui, Tairua, Coroglen for lunch, Tapu-Coroglen road to the Coast then home.  

Along the way I found this beetle?bug?  I have yet to find out what it is.  Any ideas?

The extra is a steel blue ladybird with reflections in its shell.
