Culinary tours of Paris

On day 2 of our Paris holiday, I booked us on a foodie tour called Culinary Tours of Paris. A three-course trek through Montmartre, we sampled a charcuterie (pictured), followed by a hearty lunch and then sweet crepes with cider.

In this plate of charcuterie, we sampled Jambon d'Auvergne (pancetta from the Auvergne region of France, Saucisse seche (cured sausage) and pork pate. The cheeses were a Bleu d'Auvergne and Comté. Everything was delicious and John-Paul who ran the tour explained the origins of all the food while we happily chomped away.

For the main lunch course, we went to a fabulous restaurant called A La Pompenette, that has been open for a century and run by the same family. If you're ever in Montmartre, go there - the place is overflowing with ambience.

And for the final course, a creperie called La Brocéliande, one of the top-rated creperies on TripAdvisor. I had a salted caramel crepe while Mamashaz had a chocolate and pear. It was a lovely finish to a fabulous day and John-Paul (yes, it's actually John, not Jean! He's an American expat) was a delight.

John-Paul conducts tours in both the Latin Quarter and Montmarte, which cost between 80-95 Euros and run for about 2.5-3 hours. See www.culinarytoursofparis.com for more details.
