Long Slow Distance

By platanos

Up up and away!

A gorgeous old print, purchased from the collections of East Sussex Libraries shows an 1828 view from Baxter's Library, High Street, Lewes, of School Hill. My flat is on the right of the picture, first floor, just before the twitten.

And wonderfully, a hot-air balloon is pictured flying over the downs near Cliffe. Doubly of interest to me, being a balloonist. You don't ordinarily see balloons this close to the town: flying in the proximity of the downs is not necessarily advisable.

But a happy coincidence for me. Thanks to Rob Read (@robkread) for wising me up to the existence of the print.
