Is that really a computer?!

Unearthed at the in-laws yesterday and handed over with instructions to find a new home for it on eBay. It was a state of the art portable in 1984 but, as we discovered this morning, doesn't even power up now so I'm not that sure that even eBay will be very interested.  

17 yr old incredulous son "is that an oscilloscope screen??" His 50 yr old father "No, that's what I typed up my thesis on". How technology has changed.
