Scarlet Elf Cup

I do like it when a plan works. At the weekend I noticed several postings of Scarlet Elf Cup on a fungi FB site that I follow. Its a fairly widespread  fungi most commonly found in the wetter parts of Britain in winter. I'd never noticed it in our comparatively dry part of Sussex. This morning the spaniel and I set off determined once and for all to check all the likely locations within a morning's walk of home (although to be fair the spaniel was more interested in the prospect of pheasants and rabbits). After three hours, and on the verge of giving up, I found them. A good  dozen or so growing out of dead twigs and half covered in moss beside a very damp and shady stream down near the river Ouse.
