Lectern Doocot 1583

in Athelstaneford, the site of the Flag Heritage Centre.  Legend has it that the Scottish Flag - the Saltire - has its origins here. On the eve of a battle between a Pictish army and invading Angles from Northumbria in 823AD, Saint Andrew came to the Pictish King with a vision of victory. The next morning the Picts saw a white cross formed by clouds in the blue sky and, after winning the battle, adopted the saltire as their flag and St Andrew as their patron saint.
