Grimrothes

Sorry, Glenrothes, but it is grim. It is a sprawling poorly constructed new town of the sixties. If you like roundabouts then you'll love it. To soften the disappointment the town inevitably brings they have dotted various artworks about the place, some are brutally ugly concrete eyesores, others interest and amuse in varying degrees. In the Kingdom Shopping Centre (a mall lacking in soul but boasting a Dunnes store!) there is a bronze called ‘The Shoppers’ by Malcolm Robertson. Immortalised in sculpture were local companions Bill Anderson and Margaret McQueen. Who the lunk in the tracky bottoms is I have no idea.

Lesson learned? We had not a scooby how to build new towns in the 60s (Grimrothes, Cumberdull, East Kildied, Livingdead....they are all interchangeable, all built on the cheap.) I suspect little has changed.
