We are happy that this twisted ash in the hedge is trimmed periodically so enabling a clear view across the water towards Fife and Inchkeith lighthouse. It looks as if it might have been layered and must be very many years old and possibly as old as the tall ash trees nearby where magpies and pigeons are building nests while blue tits, sparrows, blackbirds and other small birds prefer this hedge. Today larks were singing above the adjacent field in the blue sky and bullfinches were on the thistledown. Tomorrow perhaps there will be pheasant footprints in snow. In the not too distant future this lovely old hedge with its variety of shrubs might disappear if plans for new housing materialise. Such is progress.
