Wool-tastic!
"Wool-tastic! turned out to be an oasis of tranquillity and harmony for all the family"
These are the lovely words from one of our visitors after our event successful event Wool-tastic! For one weekend only in August 2012, we transformed an area of Hawthornden Court in the National Museum of Scotland Chamber St, Edinburgh into a knitted wonderland. There was a knitted board game, a woolly tree, a Fairisle and a Guernsey chair to the National Museum, not to mention umpteen cute little stools for the kids. Everything was hand-knitted!
Hand-knitting is a therapeutic pastime, the perfect thing to relax with after a busy day. Wool-tastic! and the team involved wanted to spread the word about this enjoyable and social hobby. We had some great knitting activities that let you get hands-on with natural wool - including finger knitting, making your own knitted rabbit or helping with our community scarf project. It was great to see all ages and genders getting involved learning a new skill and new friendships springing up.
Wool-tastic! was the creation of Eribé Knitwear, a luxury knitwear design company based in Galashiels. They were supported by the Learning and Programmes team at National Museums Scotland and Edinburgh International Fashion Festival 2012.
