We Were Lucky!
The curse of 'what ifs' reared its head today when storm Doris rattled the bars of her cage and threatened our journey south.
With Daughter#1 offering to run us to Aberdeen, there was the 'what if' the road is blocked by snow and we are stuck in the wilds. With this scenario a possibility after watching the weather forecast, His Lordship and I decided to bite the bullet and take the meandering 35 bus which connects every conceivable hamlet to Aberdeen taking 2 hours 30 mins to do so, but to leave early enough should the weather catch us out.
In the event, Doris forgot about the Moray coast, there was no snow, little wind, just rain, but the bus broke down of its own accord somewhere in the middle of nowhere outside Turriff. As we waited for a replacement bus, there was the 'what if' we couldn't make our Gold Bus connection in Aberdeen on time. I could see my muffin and hot drink sliding from my grasp.
The replacement bus did arrive eventually and we did get to Aberdeen in time. The muffin seemed so much more delicious as we rolled south with not a cm of snow anywhere near the road until we were south of Perth, although we could see it lying on the far hills. By the time we reached Edinburgh, there was not a trace of white.
Listening to the news tonight, I think we were lucky, even though it took 7 hours to travel from Cullen to Edinburgh.
