In the middle of rural Formartine, on a small hill, stands an odd chess piece type structure called the Prop of Ythsie. It was built as a memorial to the Fourth Earl of Aberdeen by his grateful tenants (were they forced to declare their gratitude, I wonder?).

On the way up the path you pass alongside field of cows who seem to take great interest in little boys crawling along on all fours pretending to be the same.
