Just blew in from the Windy City/Doris Day
The plan was to get a train up to Birmingham, go to see the Ballet Cinderella at The Birmingham Royal Ballet then go on to the very smart Indian restaurant for the ' Ruby ' which the Offspring bought us for our Wedding anniversary.
Storm Doris was just a flap of a butterfly's wing when we planned all this weeks ago.
We parked at the station and were informed of an 11 minute delay, this kept increasing and when the train came was a 20 minute delay. That was ok though we had allowed plenty of time. A few miles out of Birmingham we were informed that a tree was down on the line and had damaged a train which was holding up three other trains in front of us. Annoyingly, the guard had known all this but they hadn't informed the people waiting at the stations . We could have gone by car .
Time ran out and we got off the train, shared a taxi back to Stratford and went home for the afternoon. The restaurant was still booked though and with a very strict no show payment taken from your credit card if you didn't turn up, we thought we had better try to go again, by car this time .
Well we've just had the most wonderful meal at Lasan in the Jewellery quarter. Exquisite and delicately spiced , this was as far from your average high street curry house as you can get. It was in another league. Beautiful meal . Thanks Kids!
Lots of bits of tree down everywhere, it took our son 6 1/2 hours to get back from the Lake District. It's sobering to realise that people have been killed and injured in this storm so we're glad and thankful to be home safe and sound.
This is St Paul's church in the Jewellery quarter a rather similar shot to my pre Christmas one when we were there for a concert.
Doris has cleared off now to Poland apparently, at such high speed that if my hat had blown off this morning it would be in Gdansk or somewhere by now!
