To put in a few more miles to boost my pathetic August tally, I followed the winding Clyde upstream from Glasgow Green as far as the M74 bridge before turning round and huffing and puffing my way into work, having misjudged just how long my detour would take.

Probably the most - maybe even the only - productive part of my day.
