Holiday's end

Last official day of the summer holiday. :-( Sun out, so I thought it appropriate to finish as I began, with a solo walk at Malham. I love the Yorkshire Dales (yes even with the rain) and one of the reasons I love it, is that if you make an earlyish start you can be at the most famous landmark in the Dales, and yet have it ALL TO YOURSELF!!!
To my excitement, as I rounded the cove steps, puffing like a goodun with heavy rucksack I spotted a couple of juvenile green woodpeckers. I sat for a good half hour watching them help themselves to the ants in the ancient termite mounds near the top of the Cove. Hadn't seen a green woodpecker up this close before, I was surprised how large they are. So, a fabulous walk, and a cream tea to treat myself at the end. May get a walk in tomorrow if the forecast is correct. Fingers crossed eh.

As I use blip as my diary, I thought I would add in some of the day's news to put it in context. So in today's news....
News: Neil Armstrong, the first man on the moon was buried today. Apparently he was a lovely, modest man. Maybe seeing the earth from that distance does that to you.
