At Pontshill: Beaten by the rain

The relentless summer rain has ruined another crop. I couldn't drive past this without feeling for this farmer.

The cost of sowing this field in the first place would have meant loaning a substantial figure from the bank. Insurance claim maybe? For most farmers this summer's failure to harvest because of rain will be a devastating and most will wonder whether to continue
next year.

Families will question the rise in food prices, but this is why, it may be in short supply.
