Painter's trunk

Despite it being a rather dull day at the nature reserve, it was possible to find some intense patches of colour. This is what's left of a large rotten beech tree that had to be felled a couple of years ago as it was right next to a public footpath. I haven't yet identified the resupinate fungus that is providing the lovely streaks of colour.
