The Last Load

This ship is the Walter J McCarthy, Jr.  She is leaving the Duluth-Superior Port under the Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge loaded with coal.  This photo was taken at sunset through the window of our hotel room!  What a view!   The McCarthy makes over 30 trips each shipping season in and out of the Duluth Harbor.  Today was her last trip out until spring.   As you can see the lower part of the bridge has been lifted for the ship to exit.   It is always a bit thrilling to watch the ships pass under the bridge and through the canal.
