Clarisse's Uncle, metaphorically
Clarisse's uncle was a great character cuz he shaped Clarisse. He made her a girl who cared about the dew on the grass, who knew what rubbing a dandelion meant, who thought there was a man on the moon. He made her able to think when nobody else in the school did, he made her a beautiful “antisocial” who wondered “why” instead of “how”. He made her a girl who would shake the walnut trees, knit a blue sweater and pin autumn leaves neatly to a sheet of white paper. He made her understand the significance of solitude and pride in the dystopian society where reading was banned. He made her a hopeless romantic-but she brought hope to Montag. The flickering light she ignited in front of Montag caused the conflagration in the end, determined to burn the rotten system of the firemen-maybe in decades, maybe in centuries-that day would eventually come.
