Dunfermline Abbey
We had a day out in Dunfermline today. Neither of us had ever been before. We started out by visiting the abbey and palace. The ruins were lovely but the medieval abbey nave was just breathtaking (see above). There is another view in the extras plus the bridges from the abbey grounds.
We had a pub lunch then went to see a friend perform in Gilbert and Sullivan's Ruddigore at Carnegie Hall. I have never seen any before but it was good fun and a good performance. Although at one point Mad Margaret had her dress accidentally trodden on and torn! She didn't let it put her off though and reappeared in the next scene gleaming with safety pins.
Afterwards we made for the train station only to find that not only was our train cancelled but the next one too. In fact it was over two hours before the next one was due. We tramped up to the bus station but didn't think it was worth it as it would only have got us home 30 mins quicker. So we sat slumped in a pub, tired and angry and me missing my fids* for the next hour and a half before returning late to an Edinburgh filled with drunken football and rugby fans. A lovely day marred by crap public transport.
