Bowder Stone.
Brian and I set off with a mission today. He wanted to try and duplicate an old photo he has of the Bowder Stone. This huge boulder in Borrowdale estimated at almost 2000 tons is supposedly named after the corruption of the scandinavian god's name Balder. You are supposed to be able to see his face in the bottom left corner. I have never (and still couldn't) see this while standing there. However I can now pick it out: the nose breaks the silhouette about a third of the way up and the eyes about level with the widest part.
After leaving we decided to return to keswick along what we call the back side of the lake. As we drove along the Catbells I said "stop! There's Rip" having recognised my cousins dog. We met up with R her husband and finally rendezvoused Derwent Lass marina and made our way to Nichol End Marina for coffee and a catch up. A mini blip meet before the blip meet at Aira Car Park on Wednesday.
