The First Day of Spring

Now that September has arrived, Spring has 'officially' begun.

Fittingly Vivienne, one of our bantam hens, came out of hiding today with two chicks. During a walk down the valley the bleats of lambs were also heard, the first of the season for my hill farmer neighbours.

As if to confirm that Spring is here, when I returned from my walk with the dogs I spotted our perennial pair of Welcome Swallows, sitting on the telephone line. The same family have been roosting at our place for the last 10 years. It's nice to have them back.
