Lunch Before the Rain

Jim and I always seem to end up here for lunch: Thai Peacock at 9th and Oak. I think it's the third time in a year. He works fairly close to here and I used to come here a lot (it was a sandwich place then) when I worked for the printer who leased space at Powell's Books, just around the corner from here. That was a tricky place to work; hard to resist spending all my money on books. I finally had to rein myself in by allowing only one purchase a month, and that only for a book I had paged through at least three times. It was mostly cookbooks in those days. Now I hardly open a cookbook. It's so easy to simply look online.
