Windswept @ the Pier
Sunshine after several days of grey - actually just about everything was happening. I nipped into Kilcrohane to deliver some cards then went on the search of daffodils for way back in the 60s, Kilcrohane produced daffodils as early as those in the Isles of Scilly. Now the fields have been let go but are still unexpected and beautiful to behold. However, I got sidetracked down at the Pier where it was pretty wild! You can see what has just past over, bearing wind and hail, and behind me another large cloud was looming but look at the colour of the water!
A restful day, enthralled by the Táin. part 2 coming up - Queen Medb wants the famous Brown Bull of Ulster and is waging war to get it opposed by our hero Cúchulainn who is now a lad (!) and causing havoc. This is what he looked like:
... he had seven toes on each of his feet and seven fingers on each of his hands. He had seven pupils in each of his royal eyes and seven gems sparkled in each pupil. Four dimples in each cheek, a blue dimple, a purple, a green and a yellow. Fifty tresses of hair he had between one ear and the other, bright yellow, like the top of a birch tree or like brooches of pale gold shining in the sun. He had a crest of hair, bright, fair as if a cow had licked it. He wore a green mantle in which was a silver pin, and a tunic of thread of gold.
But when he went into a battle rage all sorts of ghastly things occurred including the appearance of a hero's light which seems to have been a massive pillar of blood that rose upward like a plume which became a mist like the smoke of a palace when a king comes to be attended in the evening of a wintery day.
As Medb marched on Ulster to get the bull Cúculainn was the only one able to defend the state for all the Men of Ulster were under a curse - every year for 5 days they were incapacitated by labour pains! This is because a woman called Macha had been forced to run a race when she was in labour with twins. She cursed the Men of Ulster for nine generations and every year they were laid low! Got that! Cúchulainn is unaffected and he gets through hundreds of men - no one stands a chance. There is only one possible man who could take him on: Ferdia but he doesn't want to fight as he is Cúchulainn's fosterbrother and they were brought up together - what will happen next! I fear it can't end well!
Read on up to the Clash to Titans!!
Off out to supper tonight as it's a friend's birthday. Catch you later.
