Qualifications? Who needs them?

Dull & dreary today and don't have anything to Blip so thought we might as well have a RANT!!!

Here I am with Ann's certificate to prove she has passed a 'Pitman's Audio Transcription Course' - with distinction. How clever is she? – not!

For those of you who follow our BLIPS regularly, you will know that we have homes in St Ives & Edinburgh, and are trying to live between the two. Unfortunately, due to the amount of wine Ann drinks treats that I consume, and the amount of money that my dog insurance now costs, and the cost of my food and everything else that a dog owner has to pay out for..................... Ann needs to find a job?!!

Ann had a very good idea; she thought she could do audio transcription work at home from wherever we happened to be. Best laid plans and all that...........................

…................Ann learnt to type years ago (on a typewriter, not a computer) and has very good copy typing speeds (70-75wpm) but has never done audio typing before. Well how hard can it be??? After learning that her bestie's daughter was making 'lot's of money' and had no experience, Ann thought that she would do the same. After all; Ann has lots of typing experience, and so thought it would be a breeze. Did the above course just so that she didn't get into any bad habits.

And  'Dogwithnobrain' actually sent her a foot pedal and wouldn't accept any money for it. Just how nice was that?

Mmmmmm................. why is life never simple???

Ann has applied to more than 10 transcription companies.......................

She's failed the test on three. Transcribing at college (when only one person is speaking in perfect English) is a lot easier than transcribing a focus group conversation where one has background noise, 5 or 6 speakers who are all talking over each other and who spend most of the time repeating themselves, eating crunchy crisps, or saying emmm and mmmmm and coughing, etc, etc. Just how do you get experience of that type of situation if no one will give you work. Ann thinks she might practice by transcribing the dialogue on the Jeremy Kyle show. Lol.

She's been rejected by two (because they either need at least 6 months transcription experience or need to be currently working for another transcription company). And one company that she was going to apply for actually stated that they wouldn't consider anyone who had not worked as an audio transcriber for any less than 15 years???

And the rest haven't even bothered responding?!!

And now she's left thinking................... how can a 20 year old, with no experience in typing, or audio or transcription work be able to get work???

Oh well, onwards and upwards.

Ann says it's not easy being a middle aged woman.

PS: If anyone wants to give Ann a job..................... She's available. I'm a bit worried that my treats are going to run out. Lol!!!
