Up, Up, Up

To the surprise and delight of the more cultured half of the Black Country, Albion have done it again; a 2-0 home win over a strong Everton side has taken us into the international break unbeaten, and third in the league. It's the first time we've reached this lofty height in exactly twenty-eight years (when a 4-0 win over Luton on 1st September 1984 pushed us up to third for the weekend) and our best start to a top-flight season since the golden year of 1978-79. Happy days are here again.

Of course, we don't need telling that a lot can go wrong from here on. And we certainly don't need reminding that the orange ones were in exactly the same position this time last year, only to freefall downwards in kamikaze style. But even if we're inevitably doomed to slide in a southerly direction in the coming months, it's still nice to have these little moments of triumph; the brief Saturdays of September glory.
