Champs, Again

The Fin Swimming Gala in Bristol went rather well: We won. Though our club did take up over two thirds of the starting blocks. Tuttle Jnr got some good times and in the 25m Surface Monofin race (with a snorkel) I managed to beat a GBR guy who had been doing fin swimming for 16 years. Before you start congratulating me with a load of blip stars and blip hearts, it is worth noting that this guy needed a lot of help getting on to the diving block (with both feet in a mono fin this is a tricky procedure even for the more able swimmer). The reason being was not because he was disabled, but because he is sixty five years old. He is due to collect his free bus pass next month.Being a good sport I congratulated him, naturally, of course.
Despite a technical hic-up whereby a starting block broke earlier on many races had to be split into A + B and therefore the gala had to be extended beyond 10pm. Many missed out on the relay (myself & Tuttle Jnr included) as a result. And the awards ceremony was shortened too.  Bit of a bummer but still we all had a superb time. The late finish meant we were also late coming home as we choose not to stay over with the others. We got home at 3am! The M5/M6/M56 were all clear though we did have to make a detour through SE Wolverhampton due to overnight roadworks.

PS: I only beat the veteran by a fraction of a second. I need to practice more!
