applications of physics
You don't really get much of an idea of the size of these things just from them flying a few hundred feet over your back garden practically every day for twelve years, so they seem a little big bigger when standing next to them. Lightnings and phantoms are about the size they always seemed to be, but there's a lightning shell on the ground a few miles from my parents' house and there was usually a spare phantom parked somewhere at the Conningsby airshow. I thought there was a phantom here too, but there wasn't one today. Vulcans seem as big on the ground as they do did in the air. The concorde seems extravagantly high on its wheels considering how pokey it is inside.
