Saxon splendour

We are having a short break.

This tiny doorway lies at the foot of the Saxon tower of St Peter's church, Barton upon Humber. Everything is at an angle. But then, it has been standing in this place for rather a long time,

Arriving in Beverley, we had an enjoyable mooch around. The BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition is currently showing at the Treasure House. Wonderful.

It is a lifetime since I lived in Beverley, surely one of England's most splendid market towns. Everywhere I walk is layered with memories. It's that sort of place.
