Small Print
Mono Monday: Small Print
Not an Ibsen reference , but instead this is a shot of Jacob Polley's poem "Dolls House". I rather like Mr Polley's work, its a shame but I couldn't manage to take this shot without getting my hand in the way of some of the poem. How frustrating is that? The poem seems particularly appropriate for the concept of small, so I've retyped it below:
Doll's House
A table set with tiny plates,
the chairs around a paper fire:
diminishment has simplified
the aims and objects of desire,
while blinder faith must still provide
the mincemeat in the wooden cakes,
the creaking stair and wind outside.
For you have held your breath to peer
along the shelves of depthless books
lining a room where nothing's read;
and now effortlessly giant, look
up to the eaves and in at the beds.
Be brave. To live is not to fear
despite the scale of what's at stake.
Two children lie n matchbox cribs.
Next door a couple, stiff as pegs,
are tucked together, rib to red,
the bedsheets bound around their legs.
What happens if you turn away?
Every god has asked the same,
crouched at a sideboard, just in case
sudden little laughtershakes
a heaven like an empty house
where not a plate nor day will break.

Thanks to Skeena for hosting MM163 this week. Apologies that I appear to have two entries for MM163, it seems that I transposed the digits for MM136 into MM163 last August!
I've been meaning to thank everyone for their kind words and support for my sister Janet, who is currently recovering from a kidney transplant. The positive vibes have been very much appreciated, although I haven't had any time to properly thank each one of you, for which I can only apologise.
After work today I drove over to see my brother-in-law Incredibish and to deliver some frozen meals on wheels to help him out. With everything he has on his plate at the moment finding the time to cook anything other than toast must seem tricky. In addition I've left him with some freshly baked focaccia which I'm hoping he will enjoy :-)
