Khalas

Hogmany in Muscat is not widely regarded as the most scintillating experience of the year. There is one hideous night club (which I have managed to avoid all but a couple of times since it opened last year) and a couple of decent restaurants so the choice for where to spend tonight seems pretty simple.

Our place of choice is charging 75 Omani Rials per head for food and drinks. That's around 150 quid! Others are charging just a bit less. Anyone would think we were booking a swanky place in the heart of London. It's Muscat for heaven's sake. Each place will be full of nobby ex-pats and horny Omanis which is most definitely not my idea of a nice thing to do to see out the year.

So, we're off to our local cheaphole (which does fabulous beer and Indian food for pennies) with a couple of mates and we'll see how it goes from there.
