Juniper shield bug
A full month earlier than last year I found 2 of these beautiful Juniper shield bugs Cyphostethus tristriatus, at work today.
Described as 'a fairly large (9-10.5mm) green shield bug with curved and distinctive pinkish-red markings on the corium' it is quite difficult to see and well camoflaged on the juniper bushes we have at work.
It is listed as common across southern and central England, though I have not found it to be especially common round where I live, as this is only the third time I have found it.
I am planning to make shield bugs one of my target groups for this year and I am sure you will agree this little beauty is a great place to start.
