Kaikoura Coast

Sorry, didn't have time to write anything yesterday, so a quick edit now.

It was amazing to see the uplifted wave platform around the Kaikoura Peninsula, that is now dry at all tides.  All the sea life has been removed now that the salt water no longer reaches up onto these rocks.  More rock has risen up out of the sea to provide replacement habitat, though.

We feel so privileged to see the results of this recent earthquake; geology in action.  Understanding how the plateau currently forming the top surface of the peninsula was once itself a wave platform, is now so much more obvious and easier to appreciate.

We didn't have the greatest weather, but our visitor was able to do the dolphin trip on Monday, which was beautifully fine.  Then we walked up to the hut on Mt Fyffe in rain on Tuesday and drove the inland route home on Wednesday.  This image was taken on Monday afternoon.
