It's All About Skiing

Mum had set the alarm early to make sure we would be up and alert for the 8 am start of Vasaloppet this skiing-packed Sunday. Vasaloppet is an iconic Swedish 90 km ski race from Sälen to Mora. Around 15000 skiers start at the same time, both elite and normal skiers. Lots of food and blueberry soup is served along the tracks, and people arrive at the finish line all day and into the night. This was the 93rd year it was held. It is the opposite direction in which King Gustav Vasa skied to escape the Danish in the 1520ies, hence the name.

We went for quick walkies once the winners of the men's and women's classes had received their wreaths at the finish line. There was another long distance skiing race this afternoon if you can believe that, and mum had promised me waffles!

With super yummy waffles and the whole house smelling divine we were ready for the men's 50 km on the last day of the Championships. We watched with our friends in England, and in the end, the Brit Musgrave came in fourth place, beating all the Swedish competitors, who did not have a good day. Alex Harvey from Canada was a worthy winner.

Me and Dolly have watched so much cross-country skiing this winter! We should enter the Poodle Cross-country Skiing Quiz Contest! I think we could win! We do snooze from time to time, but we really enjoy watching too.
