Lyttelton Sled Dog Sculpture
This sculpture by Mark Whyte celebrates the role of Lyttelton in the age of polar exploration in the first decades of the 20th century, in particular dogs.
Sled dogs were quarantined on Quail Island in the harbour while intrepid men like Scott and Shackleton prepares for their assaults on the frozen continent of Antarctica.
I think this dog faces due South. Very apt...
