Paxton's Tower
It being a brilliantly warm and sunny day,we took ourselves out for some exploring.
Paxton's Tower is a Neo-Gothic folly erected by Sir William Paxton around 1806 as an eye-catcher on the summit of the escarpment overlooking the Tywi Valley as a banqueting house for his own use.It was built to commemorate Lord Nelson's victories and also to reprove the local community for its failure to elect Paxton as MP. Money which he had promised,if elected to spend on a much needed bridge was instead diverted to this massive three- sided structure.
Our second stop was at Dryslwyn Castle on the opposite side of the Tywi in a majestic hilltop location. It was built around the 1220s by one of the princes in the kingdom of Deheubarth. The views from the castle are wonderful as you can see in the last of my extra pictures.
