The Grand Canal from the Rialto Bridge

Another bad day for me with landscape although I did beat everyone else to the Rialto. We were not blessed with enchanting skies.

However, the Rialto Markets were, and are, incredible. Such beautiful, fresh food. I told Matt over breakfast and he decided to take a look. By the time he'd got there, most of the fish had been sold. Presumably the restaurants come to buy first thing.

After breakfast, we travelled west on the Grand Canal to the Ponte della Costituzione, where I learned that the high key approach to landscape does not always require a small aperture. That was instructive.

A quick coffee in the train station, which was the cheapest place we discovered for coffee in Venice and then travel back down the Grand Canal to Giglio to take a look at La Fenice, the Venice Opera House. It's been rebuilt more than once, after devastation by fire. Les and Lisa had already left the group to find gondolas traversing the network of small canals. Marvellous photo opportunities.

I diverted to the Rialto Markets on the way back because I wanted to take a photo of the Casa d'Oro from that side of the Grand Canal. Three exposures. The last should have been best but a boat passed during the exposure, leaving a traffic trail.

A jovial dinner at Trattoria Storica concluded the day.
