1925 Montlake Bridge

Back when coal was king in the Seattle area they needed a way to bring the coal to shipping points in Puget Sound. Between 1901 to 1911 they built the Washington Lake Ship Canal.The canal is 8 miles (13 km) long and a minimum of 28.5 feet (8.7 meters) deep. Because of the elevation difference between the canal and Puget Sound (26 feet / 8 meters) the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers built a locks for the ships at the entrance to the sound. This is the first bridge in the canal out of Lake Washington.. 

A long day at work but I have the weekend off.. sort of.. Many little things that have to be done.. Oh wait.. I think we call that life ;-)
