Stonehenge

Thank you for all the kind and supportive comments on yesterdays ponderings, Im still ruminating.

After the disastrous journey down we saw nothing of Truro in the end (though we did see a bit of Falmouth) so we were determined to make the most of Salisbury. With nothing vaguely mountainous nearby regular followers will be unsurprised to know its not somewhere we've ever been.
Arriving late we made our way to the cinema - now whilst this may seem odd - as movie lovers this was really special - one of the most historic cinemas in the UK and possibly the only commercial cinema housed in a Grade 1 listed building. It was stunning.
Up this morning we had a wander around what seemed a vibrant little city and made our way to the cathedral (extras) - stunning, we'd have liked more time, but we had a certain UNESCO World Heritage site to visit....
Getting in the car we set off - 5 minutes later we didn't know whether to laugh or cry - the radio announced a bad crash on the A-road at Stonehenge, traffic chaos. We told the satnav to avoid a roadblock and hoped for the best. 15minutes later we popped out onto an empty A303 - the car had found a slip road the police had forgot to close. A helpful policeman passed us through and then went to shout into his radio.
Arriving an extra bonus - unbeknownst to us the National Trust owns most of the surrounding land - so entry was free. Im going to say nothing about the truly ghastly design (oops, there I go...) of the visitors centre - I'm sure it made sense to someone!
There's little I can say about Stonehenge that isn't done more eloquently by the main blip and the extra collage. Even on a 'quiet' day there were 400+ people, but a well considered layout meant it was quite possible to feel a sense of personal space and interaction with these magnificent monoliths, as you can imagine we took our time. Somehow i like the view of the more broken section of the henge best, but it was a difficult choice. I think the raven (yes, i know its a crow, but it should be a raven) just sets it off for me personally.

We then decided that the motorway gods were sending us a message this trip - so we ambled back through the Cotswolds on the teensy weensy roads. Chocolate box pretty but just a little too polished for me.
