Refreshing change

European green woodpecker (Picus viridis metallum)

Range extends almost exclusively to urban areas, roadsides and parks. A symbiotic relationship has developed between the woodpecker and the human street-drinker. A unique characteristic of this kind of bird is that the juveniles are heavier than the adults. The dramatic weight loss occurs almost immediately after leaving the nest, which are usually located in supermarkets and corner shops, and ends immediately prior to being released into the wild by their human symbiont.
