Manchester art gallery

A trip into Manchester to see the Strange and Familiar photography exhibition. We also had a quick stroll around the galleries while we were there. I particularly liked these Victorian Scottish landscapes.

Next to one of the other paintings was a short explanation that some of the art works had originally been in the Horsfall Museum.  Thomas Coglan Horsfall had established this in 1884 to educate working people:

"Show people the best pictures you can get of beautiful common things; make them notice the beauty of form... of colour... and when they next see the thing which the picture represented, they will see in it beauty which, but for the picture, they would not see."

This summed up for me what I try to do with my photos - show the ordinary and everyday as beautiful and interesting.
